Summary
Filling the gap left by absent elected officials, some comedians from Alabama have created a town hall format to mock these dimissive and condescending politicians. Aligned with the civic and community groups doing the real work to hold officials accountable, the show aims to bring levity while highlighting serious issues. Over a ridiculous, hilarious, and cathartic hour performance, real issues fielded from the audience will be highlighted as the performers do their best to navigate jeers, boos, and applause as they attempt to toe-the-line that Everything is Great!
Press Release of Show
Everything Is Great! A Town Hall for the People: Comedy / Theatre / Politics
Saturn, Birmingham, Alabama, USA
April 30th @ 8:00PM
Part Town Hall, Part improvised parody.
Real issues and questions are fielded by comedians playing the roles of absent elected officials in this improvised live game show version of a TOWN HALL!
Comedians have come together to take the reins of the absurdity of our current political moment and create a hilarious and cathartic town hall event.
Alabama native and internationally touring performer Matt Davis debuts a brand new show that addresses the current moment head on.
Designed in the vein of other Fringe Arts Festival shows Matt has produced, the format combines interactive elements and improvised lines with an almost game show-esque excitement to parody the spectacle and dismissiveness on display between elected officials and the people they seem loath to represent.
An expert cast of improvisers and comedians (some of the area’s best) are thrown in the game to represent the absent, empty chair, elected officials. Through a series of rounds the comedians lend their voice to the missing officials, and answer real questions and concerns posed by the audience. But! The comedians must toe-the-line that “everything is great” in all their responses. That is, if they wish to receive points from our host, Mr. Dark Money himself. The audience, however, is here to win, too! And they boo and jeer on queue, amid ridiculous answers, blatant sponsorships, redemption groveling, surprise guests, and other wild happenings. All together it turns our town hall parody into a hilarious evening of improvised comedy, and real community catharsis! Grab your civic-minded friends, or those you think need to be inspired to get involved, and meet us April 30th at Saturn in Avondale for what we hope is the first of many wild and funny nights.

About Matt Davis:
Matt Davis (Birmingham, Alabama native) is an award-winning comedian with a long C.V. of global comedy and arts festivals and 25+ years of touring across hundreds of cities through 70+ countries. Some notable festivals include runs of shows at Just For Laughs in Montreal (largest North American comedy festival), Sketch Fest in San Francisco, UICF in Utrecht, Netherlands, the Bengaluru Comedy Festival in India, Sydney Comedy Fringe in Australia, HICF in Hong Kong, and many, many, more. In 2015 his World In Jest project helped to connect disparate emerging comedy scenes, including many where he was the first foreign artist to perform with local scenes (Mongolia, Macedonia, Pakistan, and Bosnia-Herzegovina to name a few). This work led to his previous hour, BadFamiliar, and an on-going effort of the same name that hopes to help connect artists interested in crushing the notion that “familiar equals good” within their own work. Matt’s early years of touring (mid-late 90s to 2015), were primarily in North America. During this time he was racking up 40 weeks a year on the road; toured as a support act for household names; was featured on Netflix in its early days; released 5 albums he does not care for now; and was regularly spun on Sirius / XM Radio.
“Matt is a pro… perfect timing… has the comic vision of a Zen Buddhist” ️Gonzo Magazine (Edinburgh, Scotland, 2024)
“Matt Davis is an intellectually driven standup comedy king” ️Fringe Review (Perth, Australia, 2020)
